UPDATE: ‘Slender Man’ Stabber Captured at Truck Stop After Fleeing Group Home

Authorities in Wisconsin have announced the capture of a woman who disappeared after cutting off her Department of Corrections monitoring bracelet and fleeing from a group home. The woman was located in Illinois.

Morgan Geyser, whose capture was confirmed by Posen, Illinois police to WISN, was discovered at a truck stop in Thornton alongside another person. The pair had traveled to Posen by bus before being taken into custody.

The 23-year-old Geyser was last seen on Saturday with an adult acquaintance in Madison, Wisconsin. Recently, she had been relocated to a group home for treatment related to a psychotic spectrum disorder. The court, however, has kept the specifics of the facility undisclosed.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel highlighted a significant delay, noting that there were 12 hours between the removal of Geyser’s monitoring device and the police being alerted. The reasons behind this delay remain unexplained by officials.

Back in 2014, when she was just 12, Geyser and her friend Anissa Weier were involved in a notorious case where they attempted to murder a classmate. The incident occurred after a sleepover for Geyser’s birthday, where they enticed their classmate into the woods and attacked her with a knife, resulting in 19 stab wounds. Miraculously, the victim survived.

The attack was reportedly motivated by a desire to please “Slenderman,” a fictional character from internet lore. Geyser and Weier believed that failing to commit the attack would result in harm to their families.

Geyser and Weier were found not guilty due to mental disease or defect. Weier was released from a mental institution in 2021. Geyser remained institutionalized despite seeking her release on four occasions.

However, in March, a judge granted Geyer’s petition for conditional release. In July, a Sun Prairie group home rescinded its offer to take in Geyser as a resident. Geyser’s attorney said it was due to negative publicity.

The victim’s family said in a statement to WISN that she is safe amid Geyser’s disappearance this weekend.

This story is developing.
