In the early hours of Tuesday, a tragic altercation unfolded in a Jacksonville Westside home, resulting in the fatal shooting of a man, as reported by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
Officers arrived at a residence on the 200 block of Lane Avenue South around 3 a.m., responding to reports of a shooting. Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Steve Rudlaff stated that at least five individuals were present in the home during the incident.
The victim, described as being in his early 40s, suffered a gunshot wound to the chest. Despite being rushed to UF Health hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.
The initial investigation suggests that the deceased was engaged in a heated argument with another man, whose age is estimated to be between 35 and 45. However, the details surrounding the conflict and any potential relationship between the individuals involved remain unclear at this moment, according to Sgt. Rudlaff.
According to Rudlaff, the man got into an argument with another man who’s about 35-45 years old.
“At this time, we do not know the circumstances of the incident, or the relationship involved in the individuals,” Rudlaff said.
Rudlaff later added that there is a “known relationship” between the victim and someone who was inside the home when the shooting happened, but stated the sheriff’s office does not yet know the exact relationship. He said he believes the victim came to the house as a guest.
Rudlaff further told First Coast News that multiple people were detained following the shooting, not including the shooter, who remains on the loose.
