A renowned celebrity stylist, well-known for his appearances on The Oprah Winfrey Show, was discovered lifeless in the swimming pool atop his luxurious Minneapolis apartment building under puzzling circumstances.

Christopher Hopkins, famously known as ‘The Makeover Guy,’ was found unconscious around 10:20 p.m. on Saturday in the rooftop pool of his residence. The 61-year-old had been enjoying a swim before losing consciousness. Despite being swiftly transported to a nearby hospital, he could not be revived.

While the official cause of death remains under investigation, a statement on his X account revealed that Hopkins’ heart had given out. The post expressed heartfelt condolences, noting, “Christopher’s creativity, authenticity, and passion inspired so many lives. Rest in peace, Christopher.”

Hopkins’ husband of 37 years, Robert Lindquist, shared touching memories with the Minnesota Star Tribune, describing him as an “amazing man” and acknowledging his global fan base.

‘Christopher’s creativity, authenticity, and passion inspired so many lives,’ the account added in a touching statement. ‘Rest in peace, Christopher.’ 

The designer’s husband of 37 years Robert Lindquist told the Minnesota Star Tribune that Hopkins was an ‘amazing man’, and said that ‘worldwide, people were fans of his.’ 

Hopkins first appeared on Oprah in 1996 and then again in 1999, and made his name as a celebrity stylist and makeover expert, working with stars including Hillary Clinton and actress Lauren Holly. 

Although he was best known as a celebrity stylist, Hopkins rebranded as a makeover expert for everyday women in recent years. 

In 2008, he published the bestselling book ‘Staging Your Comeback: A Complete Beauty Revival for Women Over 45’, and he also launched a YouTube channel that amassed over 500,000 subscribers. 

His YouTube series, titled ‘Makeoverguy Appearance Studios’, shared makeup and beauty tips for women, and the channel last shared a clip on Monday – two days after Hopkins passed away.

Hopkins got his start in the world of broadcasting when he opened his first salon, the Christopher Hopkins Salon, in 1990 in the same building as a number of local Minnesota stations, including KSTP and KSTP-TV. 

There, he took on the role as designer and stylist for many on-air anchors and reporters. 

He made his first TV appearance as a guest on local Minneapolis talk show Good Company that year, and by 1994 he opened a new salon, the Christopher Hopkins Image Center, in Minneapolis. 

In 1996, he got his big break as he made his first appearance alongside Oprah Winfrey, which also led to guest spots on HGTV and the Today Show. 

Alongside his work as a celebrity stylist, Hopkins was also a baritone singer who performed with the Minnesota Orchestra, the Erie Philharmonic, and the Hannover Radio Philharmonic in Germany.  

His 1999 debut song A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square was nominated for the 1999 Gay Lesbian American Music Awards.

Although he made his name as a celebrity stylist, Hopkins rebranded as a makeover expert for everyday women in recent years. 

In 2008, he told the Chicago Tribune in an interview that he hoped to give middle-aged women a new lease of life through his work. 

‘A lot of women figure out what works in their 20s and early 30s, but those things all change,’ he said. 

‘But you don’t really have the time or interest to go back to Glamour magazine and read all the articles. I give women the tools and techniques for their second act.’
