Ukrainian official Yermak resigns as corruption probe encircles Zelenskyy

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has confirmed that Andriy Yermak, the head of the Presidential Office, has tendered his resignation. This development emerged amidst reports that Yermak’s residence was recently searched by anti-corruption officials.

In a video statement, Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude for Yermak’s dedication, highlighting his unfaltering representation of Ukraine’s interests during negotiations. “He has consistently upheld a patriotic stance,” Zelenskyy remarked, as translated from his address.

The president was keen to dispel any rumors or conjecture surrounding the leadership transition. He assured the public, “I will conduct consultations tomorrow to appoint the new head of the office, ensuring a smooth succession.”

Yermak’s role as a key adviser to Zelenskyy has been pivotal, often engaging with international leaders to advance Ukraine’s foreign policy. His recent press interaction at the U.S. Mission to International Organizations in Geneva underscores the significance of his position. However, the recent raid on his home by anti-corruption investigators has raised questions about the circumstances leading to his resignation.

This change in the Presidential Office leadership comes at a crucial time for Ukraine, as the nation navigates complex internal and external challenges. President Zelenskyy remains focused on appointing a successor who will continue to champion the country’s strategic objectives.

“Today, NABU and SAPO are indeed conducting procedural actions at my home. The investigators have no obstacles. They were given full access to the apartment, my lawyers are on site, interacting with law enforcement officers. From my side, I have full cooperation,” Yermak noted the Ukrainian-language post on Friday.
