In a tragic event that has left the Stockton community reeling, four individuals, including three young children, were fatally shot during a children’s birthday celebration on Saturday evening. The violent incident unfolded in Stockton, California, claiming the lives of an 8-year-old, a 9-year-old, a 14-year-old, and a 21-year-old.
The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office reported that a total of 11 people sustained injuries in the attack. The senseless act of violence occurred at a venue known as the Monkey Space, a location that once housed a children’s theater company, as detailed by The Sacramento Bee. The shooting erupted just before 6 p.m., shattering the peace of what should have been a joyous occasion.
Vice Mayor Jason Lee shared on Facebook that the shooting took place at a child’s birthday party, further emphasizing the heartbreaking context of the tragedy. Despite the gravity of the situation, authorities have yet to identify any suspects involved in the shooting. The investigation remains ongoing as the community seeks answers and justice for the victims.
Stockton’s Mayor Christina Fugazi, speaking to KTXL, described the shooting as an act of “domestic terrorism” and “gang violence.” However, she did not provide evidence to support these claims, and law enforcement officials have not confirmed such motives as of yet.
In an effort to expedite the capture of those responsible, officials have announced a $25,000 bounty for information leading to the suspect’s apprehension. As Stockton grapples with the aftermath of this devastating event, the community, united in grief, hopes for swift justice and healing.
She also said that a “bounty” on the suspect is $25,000.
Police say they aren’t sure if they are looking for one suspect or multiple suspects, but that “detectives are actively working on suspect descriptions and moving toward identifying and locating the individuals responsible for this horrific act.”
They have asked for information and/or video footage from the event to help them find those responsible.
