Curious about which digital platforms will face new restrictions for those under 16, and which will remain open to them?
What platforms are getting banned for under-16s?
“Our aim is to target the platforms causing the greatest harm,” stated an official.
Interestingly, LinkedIn has been identified as an exempt platform for now.
“However, if LinkedIn turns into a space where online bullying occurs and its algorithms negatively impact the mental and physical health of young teens aged 13 to 16, we will not hesitate to address these issues,” the official continued.
“Essentially, every platform is under scrutiny.
If it comes to our attention that young users, unable to access Snapchat, Instagram, or TikTok, migrate to platforms like Lemon8, we will assess the potential harms there and consider adding them to our watchlist,” they concluded.
“We’ll have more to say about Lemon8 this week, so stay tuned.”
The ban is set to come into effect on December 10, with Meta already starting to lock under-16s out of their accounts.
