A Utah man faces criminal charges for allegedly sexually abusing his four grandchildren, following an extensive investigation that spanned several months.

Earlier this year, in January, the Utah Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) received a troubling report concerning a 74-year-old man from Saratoga Springs. He was accused of sexually abusing his grandchildren when they were aged between four and six. The report further claimed that the man behaved inappropriately with his daughter, who has Down syndrome, as highlighted by KTVX.

Alongside the DCFS’s inquiry, local law enforcement began their own investigation. They looked into accusations that the man had confessed to his son and daughter-in-law about his abusive actions towards his grandchildren. Allegedly, he admitted to his family that he harbored attractions to females of all ages and had a long-standing history of such behavior.

In a text message revealed by KTVX, the suspect expressed to his family, “In my weakness, he told me there is no harm in a little of this and a little of that. Once the dam I built was breached, the breach grew little by little … I’m now facing 15 years to life in prison.”

Authorities, executing a search warrant, scrutinized the man’s phone and a journal, which reportedly contained further evidence of his criminal activities.

According to KTVX, the journal allegedly detailed incidents from a decade ago, where the man wrote about inappropriately touching young girls, including his nieces. He recounted instances of having them sit on his lap while he exposed himself.

According to the news outlet, the man also recalled being a student at Brigham Young University when he had a child touch his genitals.

Most recently, the man allegedly wrote about whether he would let his disabled daughter speak with Child Services about the abuse she suffered at his hands.

The man, who was not identified to protect the victims’ identities, is not in custody. However, KTVX reported that a no-bail warrant was issued for his arrest.
