The identity of the individual from a prominent family, recently convicted of rape, has been revealed as the son of legendary AFL player Stephen Silvagni.

Throughout the trial, Tom Silvagni’s identity remained protected by a suppression order, which was officially lifted today by Judge Andrew Palmer of the Victorian County Court.

Tom, the youngest of Stephen Silvagni’s sons, was found guilty on December 5 of two counts of rape.

Initially, a County Court judge attempted to lift the suppression order in May, but Silvagni’s legal team swiftly contested this in the Supreme Court.

In August, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of Silvagni, maintaining the suppression of his identity during the two-week trial held in late November.

Additionally, the media faced restrictions on publishing any details that might identify the Silvagni family, including any connections to the AFL.

Silvagni, who worked as an AFL player agent at Kapital Sports Group, is the brother of St Kilda player Jack.

His father Stephen is a two-time premiership player for the Carlton Football Club and was inducted into both the AFL and Carlton Hall of Fame.

His mother Jo Silvagni is a well-known Australian television personality.

Tom Silvagni will face a pre-sentence hearing tomorrow.
