Blackburn Defends Seizure of Venezuelan Oil Tanker: 'Enforcing Sanctions'

Senator Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee has come forward to defend the recent confiscation of a Venezuelan oil tanker, asserting that President Donald Trump is fully justified in his actions and emphasizing that the United States is merely upholding existing sanctions.

During a segment on the program News Daily, host Mike Slater queried Blackburn, who is also a candidate for governor, about the controversial seizure, particularly in light of criticism from liberal circles.

“The operation was led by one of your fellow representatives, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth,” Slater remarked. “Are you in support of this? The left is decrying it as a provocative move, but are we simply maintaining sanctions we’ve had since 2015?”

“Absolutely, we’re upholding sanctions,” Senator Blackburn replied. “The President is acting within his legal rights, and it’s crucial that we enforce these sanctions. Look at the situation in Venezuela. Sanctions were previously not prioritized or enforced against countries like China and Russia. President Trump is clear: these sanctions are in place, they are the law, and they must be enforced.”

She criticized the left for their dissatisfaction, attributing it to their comfort with the Biden administration’s approach, which she claims often skirted legal boundaries.

“Under President Joe Biden, there was a concerted effort to make the illegal seem legal and to bypass U.S. law,” Blackburn stated. “Now, with President Trump insisting on adherence to the law, they suddenly find themselves upset,” she added.

“We should all be for enforcing the law. If they don’t like the law, they can try to change the law, but they cannot build the support for changing the law, so therefore they’re just trying to go around it,” she added.
