Police have charged a 17-year-old with murder in the brazen Saturday shooting that killed a beloved security guard at a Midtown subway station, authorities said Thursday.
The teenager is accused of shooting Darrel Rodriguez, 26, in the chest on a crowded platform at Seventh Avenue and 53rd Street before fleeing, leaving the victim mortally wounded.
Sources said the two had some type of dispute, but did not know each other before the shooting.

Police said the accused shooter surrendered with his lawyer on Thursday. He faces charges of second-degree murder, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a loaded weapon.
Rodriguez worked as a security guard at the front desk of a Manhattan building, lived in the Bronx and cared for his ailing father, according to neighbors and relatives.
Neighbors described him as a “beautiful kid.” He leaves behind two brothers, including a twin who serves in the military and lives in Texas.
