1 dead, 1 injured after shooting on Jacksonville's Westside


In the aftermath of a shooting on Jacksonville’s Westside, local authorities have begun interviewing several individuals at the Police Memorial Building. This development follows a tragic incident on Wednesday night that left one man dead and another injured.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, the shooting occurred around 8:10 p.m. in the 750 block of Edgewood Avenue North. Responding officers discovered two men suffering from gunshot wounds in a parking lot. Both victims were transported to a nearby hospital, where one succumbed to his injuries, while the other remains in stable condition.

JSO Sgt. Matthews shared with First Coast News that individuals connected to the event are currently being questioned as part of the investigation. “We are still piecing together the circumstances of the shooting,” Matthews explained. “The classification of the incident is pending as we continue our investigation in collaboration with the Medical Examiner’s Office and State Attorney’s Office.”

Authorities have emphasized that they believe this was an isolated incident, assuring the community that there is no ongoing threat. As the investigation unfolds, law enforcement remains committed to uncovering the details behind this tragic event.

Matthews further told First Coast News that “individuals” have been taken to the Police Memorial Building to be interviewed.

“At this time, the circumstances surrounding the incident are still being investigated,” Matthews said. “Due to this, the classification of the incident is pending. We will continue to investigate and coordinate our efforts with the Medical Examiner’s Office and State Attorney’s Office. We believe that this is an isolated incident and there is no additional threat to the community.”
