New videos and photos released of Brown University shooting person of interest as manhunt continues

The recent developments unfolded as law enforcement intensified their search efforts on Monday, following the release of a man previously held in connection with the case.

WASHINGTON — As the hunt for the assailant responsible for the tragic shooting of two Brown University students and the injury of nine others presses on, investigators have unveiled new video evidence.

On Monday, authorities posted footage on X featuring a person of interest, announcing plans to share further videos as the probe progresses. They urge anyone who might identify the individual to report tips through the FBI’s online portal at fbi.gov/brownuniversityshooting or by calling 401-272-3121.

A reward of $50,000 is available for information that leads to the apprehension and conviction of the suspect.

In a sometimes tense press briefing on Monday afternoon, officials disclosed three new video clips of the presumed attacker. Captured roughly two hours before the incident, the footage shows the individual in a mask and a dark, two-tone jacket. While the face remains obscured, these clips offer the most detailed view of the suspect so far.

“Our goal is to identify this person and ensure justice is served,” stated Providence’s police chief, Col. Oscar Perez, emphasizing the rapid police response following initial 911 alerts on Saturday. He appealed to the public for any leads regarding the individual captured in the videos.

The releases come as police renewed their search Monday, a day after announcing that a man previously detained in connection with the case had been released. Officials said the individual was taken into custody at a Rhode Island hotel but was later cleared.

That marked a setback in the investigation and added to questions about the shooting and investigation, including an apparent lack of video evidence and whether the focus on the person of interest might have given the killer more time to flee.

State Attorney General Peter Neronha acknowledged the urgency of the situation during a news conference late Sunday night.

“We have a murderer out there,” he said.

The shooting happened Saturday on Brown University’s campus, where two students were killed and nine others were injured.

With no suspect currently in custody, investigators are urging the public to review the newly released footage and come forward with any information that could help identify the person involved.
