A man from North Carolina is in custody following accusations of killing his girlfriend and leaving her body in her vehicle, authorities reported.

On December 12, police apprehended 38-year-old Lorenza Inman Jr., just a day after discovering the body of 31-year-old Frezja Baker inside her car parked behind a church in Charlotte. As per an affidavit accessed by Law&Crime, Baker was declared missing after her family last heard from her on December 4. That same day, her relatives overheard Inman’s voice during a phone conversation with her.

Inman’s probation officer alerted the police, citing a witness’s statement: “Lorenza told me they argued, the gun went off, and [Baker] was shot in the head.”

Following the missing person report filed on December 6, authorities began scrutinizing Baker’s phone and financial records. They traced her last known activities to a Mobil gas station on December 4, where surveillance footage showed her with Inman shortly before 10 p.m. The video allegedly captured Inman forcefully pushing Baker into a display case and coolers, then hurling an item at her, striking her back.

The footage revealed both individuals entering her car, with Inman driving away from the station. Investigators examined two phone numbers linked to Baker; one ceased activity at 10:30 p.m. on December 4, and the other at 8 a.m. on December 5.

On December 9, Crime Stoppers received a tip suggesting Baker was deceased, with her body located in her car’s passenger seat. Her remains were discovered on December 11. Post-discovery, Inman’s probation officer informed the police of a tip received on December 9 from a “known witness.” The witness conveyed, “You all are looking for Frezja Baker, and she’s dead. I don’t know where her body is, but her car is parked near my house. Lorenza told me they had a fight, the gun discharged, and she was shot in the head.”

When police spoke to the witness in person, they said that Inman made the admission on Dec. 7. The witness stated that Inman told them about specific details that “would only be known by someone with intimate knowledge of the scene.”

Inman, who has a history of domestic violence arrests, was arrested on Dec. 12 and charged with murder, assault on a female, and domestic violence. During a hearing on Monday, Inman was denied bond and ordered to remain behind bars. His next court date is scheduled for Jan. 2, 2026.

Members of Baker’s family were at the hearing and spoke to local ABC affiliate WSOC. Her aunt told the outlet that her niece was “just a good person who met a monster. And she trusted a monster.”

Baker is survived by a 2-year-old son.
