Ken Paxton’s campaign has condemned a New York Times investigation into his relationship with Christian influencer Tracy Duhon, calling the report “disgusting” and “invasive” after it revealed that she is registered as a Democrat in Louisiana.
Duhon, who has been building a life with the Texas attorney general while his wife, Angela, pursued a divorce on “biblical grounds,” has largely remained out of the public eye during Paxton’s Senate campaign.
The Times published a profile of Duhon on Tuesday under the headline, “The Christian Influencer at the Center of Ken Paxton’s New Life.”
The report said Duhon is not registered to vote in Texas. State voting records show that she is registered as a Democrat in Louisiana.
Madison Cercy, a spokeswoman for Paxton’s campaign, dismissed the investigation in a statement to the newspaper.
“This is a disgusting, invasive story that has nothing to do with the issues Texans care about,” Cercy said. “The attorney general’s personal life is not a campaign issue, and we won’t dignify it with a response.”
Cercy declined to answer questions about Paxton and Duhon, instead raising questions about his Democratic opponent, James Talarico, and his dating history.
The two reportedly began dating in May 2024 after meeting at the Kentucky Derby, while both were still married to other people, according to earlier reporting by Our News Outlet.

The couple have been seen traveling together, including on a European getaway to Iceland and London over the Fourth of July weekend. They are also linked to a five-bedroom home in a gated community in Frisco, north of Dallas.
According to the report, which cited local government records and people familiar with the relationship, Paxton recently used the property as his mailing address.
The disclosure about Duhon’s political registration comes as Paxton faces Democrat James Talarico in a closely contested Senate race that could help determine control of the chamber.
The latest RealClearPolitics polling average shows Talarico leading Paxton by 1.8 percentage points.
A recent Fox News poll showed the candidates tied at 49 percent each, while a Univision/YouGov survey gave Talarico a five-point advantage, with 50 percent support compared with 45 percent for Paxton.
Paxton has faced difficulties with independents and some Republicans as he works to keep the seat in GOP hands amid a lengthy record of legal and political controversies.
He was indicted on felony securities fraud charges in 2015 and settled the case in 2024 without admitting wrongdoing.
In 2023, the Texas House impeached him over allegations that he misused his office to assist political donor Nate Paul. The allegations included claims involving a home renovation and a job for a woman he was accused of having an affair with.
Paxton was acquitted in his Senate impeachment trial and has denied wrongdoing.
Duhon, an aspiring Christian influencer, has developed a public image centered on faith, family and redemption.
She co-founded the Christian nonprofit Giving Hope NOLA with her former husband, prominent Louisiana car dealer Troy Duhon.

In 2023, she co-hosted a religious marriage retreat that cost $799 per couple.
A year later, both marriages had ended.
Her 2025 book discusses loss, betrayal, three divorces and God’s plan, but does not mention Paxton or his wife.
According to the Times, the Duhons have four surviving children and experienced the loss of two children shortly after birth.
The newspaper also reported that Paxton has visited the New Orleans area at least five times since mid-2024.
His office recorded official business for two of those trips but had no records for the other three. Texas was billed more than $13,000 for his security detail during the visits.
Angela Paxton filed for divorce in July 2025, saying that recent discoveries had convinced her it was not right to remain in the marriage.
The couple reportedly had not lived together as spouses since June 2024.
Angela recently appeared in an advertisement urging voters to support Republicans in November’s midterms without naming her estranged husband.
In the ad, funded by a super PAC affiliated with Senate Republican leadership, the Texas state senator said the election was about getting “the whole team across the finish line,” rather than focusing on individual candidates.
Paxton’s allies have defended him as a Christian man who can advance religious values in public policy despite personal failings.
