CBP officer fires weapon during road rage incident near JFK Airport entrance

An on-duty officer with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) discharged his firearm during a road rage altercation near New York City’s John F. Kennedy International Airport on Tuesday, as per media reports.

The confrontation took place on the Van Wyck Expressway at approximately 4:45 a.m., close to an entrance of the airport, according to KABC-TV.

The CBP officer reported to law enforcement that after a minor vehicular accident, he was attacked by another driver. In self-defense, he claimed to have fired his service weapon several times.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

The other driver involved in the incident departed before officers from the Port Authority arrived on the scene.

No one has been located or arrested. 

The incident resulted in the closure of several lanes on the freeway. Drivers on their way to the airport were advised of significant traffic delays.
