A 19-year-old man from Condell Park, Sydney, finds himself facing serious charges following an incident aboard a flight from Bali to Sydney. Authorities allege that he threatened violence against an individual identified as a member of the Jewish community.

The accusations involve the young man reportedly making antisemitic hand gestures and uttering threats toward the victim, whom he allegedly knew was connected to the Jewish community. The Australian Federal Police (AFP) became involved after the airline sought their assistance during the flight.

Upon the plane’s arrival at Sydney International Airport, the suspect was promptly taken into custody. He now faces a charge of threatening force or violence against members of specific groups or their associates, an offence that could lead to a maximum of five years in prison if convicted.

As the accused prepares to appear in court today, the AFP has reassured the public that there is no current or looming threat to community safety.

The offence carries a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment.

The 19-year-old will face court today and the AFP reminded the community that there is no current or impending threat to the community.

Police did not specify if the alleged threat was related to Sunday’s terror attack at Bondi, in which 15 people died as two gunmen opened fire on the Chanukkah By The Sea event.
