A 65-year-old man from Long Island suffered a severe injury and needed to be airlifted to the hospital following an unexpected firework explosion inside an East Patchogue apartment.
The Suffolk County Police Department reported that John Philpotts-Kerr endured significant harm when a firework suddenly exploded on his lap, causing a serious groin injury.
The explosion took place in Philpotts-Kerr’s own apartment late Sunday afternoon.
He was transported via medevac helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital for urgent medical treatment due to his critical injuries.
Fortunately, no other individuals were harmed in the incident. The police are seeking help from the public and urge anyone with information to reach out to their arson detectives. A local news outlet, Greater Long Island, noted that Philpotts-Kerr’s home is a “garage apartment.”
