PLACER COUNTY, Calif. — Torrential rains lashed Northern California over the weekend, resulting in widespread flooding that prompted numerous rescues and evacuations across the region.
In a dramatic rescue operation in Placer County, emergency responders carefully transported a baby, nestled in a carrier, by sliding it across a ladder perched over a swiftly flowing river.
The surging South Yuba River inundated a residence where nine individuals were extracted to safety by the Truckee Fire Protection District.
By Monday morning, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office announced that an evacuation warning remained active for areas along the South Yuba River, stretching between Donner Pass Road and Cisco Road.
Elsewhere, the storm wreaked havoc in parts of Humboldt County, where the sheriff’s office shared images of goats marooned on a doorstep.
This scene unfolded near the Freshwater region, close to Arcata, where rising waters necessitated several evacuations.
Crews arrived in jet skis to assist residents.
In Redding, one person died after major flooding.
Water took over streets and entire neighborhoods.
Several people had to be rescued, and Interstate 5 was also flooded, impacting holiday drivers.

In Mendocino County, Willits received more than 6 inches of rain in 48 hours, flooding parks in the area.
With more rain in the forecast, rescue crews are prepared and people are reminded not to ever drive through standing water.
