An airline pilot reportedly called for passengers to vote whether to delay a planeâs departure from LaGuardia Airport so it could be cleaned after a dog peed in the aircraft.
âA pilot just came out and announced that a dog had relieved himself on the plane during the last flight and he could either order a cleaning or depart on time with the cabin smelling like dog urine,â television host Jennifer Coffey shared on social media Monday.
âSo he asked for a show of hands how many passengers just wanted to deal with the smell to get home on time,â Coffey wrote, adding, âDemocracy!â
The up or down vote reportedly unfolded at LaGuardia Airport, according to View From The Wing.
In the video shared by Coffey â who clarified she was not on the flight â travelers at a Delta Air Lines gate can be seen raising their hands to cast their vote.
While the outcome of the suspected vote remains unclear, the video amassed more than 10 million vies — and parked an intense online debate.
âYou know thereâs at least one mom whoâs like âjust give me a dang glove and a can of Clorox wipes and weâll be on our way!,ââ one user wrote on Instagram.
âWould rather sit in a plane full of dogs than a plane full of people,â quipped another.
One commenter claimed that dog urine âdoesnât smell as bad as a baby’s diaper which some parents change on the seat rather the the toilet mid flight.â

Another commenter, who identified themselves as a “nurse and full-time traveler,” wrote: “Give me a plane full of dogs ANY DAY because people smell worse and are so much more GROSS.”
“Dogs sometimes can’t wait, even with the best planning. I’ve encountered human urine, feces, vomit, boogers and blood on planes. Give me the dog that has the decency to keep it on the floor!” they added.
Others, however, insisted that dogs should not be allowed to fly, even though some airlines permit pets in the cabin.
“As a proud pet parent … leave your pets at home!!!! Legitimate service animals ONLY!!!! AND QUIT LYING THAT YOUR PET IS A SERVICE ANIMAL!!!!” one person wrote.
“I love my dog, but they belong in the bottom of the plane,” another commenter said.
According to Delta’s website, furry companions that meet the airline’s size requirements may travel in the cabin inside ventilated, leak-proof carriers placed beneath the seat in front of the passenger.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which operates LaGuardia Airport, directed questions to Delta.
The airline did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.
