A 19-year-old man has been charged after an alleged assault left a Norwegian tourist with a broken arm in St Kilda.
The alleged attack occurred on December 18 after a group of up to eight people approached the 34-year-old man in Melbourne’s inner suburbs and allegedly accused him of taking photos of others.

A man’s phone was reportedly seized and thrown into the water before he became the victim of an assault.

He was taken to hospital after suffering a broken arm, and has since returned home despite planning to stay in Australia for Christmas.

In a development last night, a 19-year-old resident of Deer Park turned himself in at a local police station.

He was interviewed by police, and subsequently charged with intentionally causing injury, robbery, affray and theft.

The individual has been released on bail and is scheduled to appear in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on July 8 of the following year.

Authorities are still on the lookout for seven additional suspects who have yet to be identified or located.

Detective Senior Constable Jesse Coppel condemned the attack, describing it as “disgusting” and expressing regret over the disturbance to the usually tranquil beach atmosphere during the summer months.

“Such behavior is appalling and has no place here,” he stated.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
