In a somber turn of events on Christmas night, Chicago was rocked by a series of shootings, resulting in at least six people being hit by gunfire, with one fatality confirmed by the local police.

Tragedy struck around 10:11 p.m. on the 7400-block of South Cottage Grove Avenue, where a man in his 30s was fatally shot. He was discovered in the Park Manor neighborhood, suffering from gunshot wounds to his back and right armpit. Despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries at the University of Chicago Hospital.
Less than an hour later, an argument escalated into violence on the 300-block of West Marquette Road. A 37-year-old man was shot multiple times during the altercation at approximately 11 p.m. He was rushed to the University of Chicago Hospital and remains in critical condition.
Further violence unfolded shortly after midnight in the South Chicago neighborhood. A teenager was wounded while walking along the 2900 block of East 91st Street at about 12:29 a.m., adding to the distressing tally of the night.
These incidents underscore the challenges faced by the community and law enforcement in curbing gun violence, even during what should be a peaceful holiday season. The investigations into these shootings are ongoing as authorities seek answers and justice for the victims.

The teenager was outside when he heard shots fired and felt pain. Police said he was shot in the inner left thigh and self-transported to an area hospital; he is expected to be OK.
On the city’s South Side, a 36-year-old man was shot in the abdomen at about 2 a.m. in the 7300-block of S. Stewart Avenue, police said.
Police said the victim was taken to an area hospital and is expected to be OK. No other information regarding the shooting was available.
At about 3:10 a.m. police said a man was critically injured in a shooting in the 6300-block of S. Dorchester Avenue in the Woodlawn neighborhood.

A 31-year-old man was walking when a group approached in a silver car. Two suspects got out of the car and began shooting before driving off.
The victim was shot in the back and rushed to an area hospital in critical condition.
Nobody is in custody.
