Donald Trump defies doctor's orders as he opens up on health side effect

Donald Trump has disclosed that he defies medical advice by consuming a high dosage of a particular medication to address heart-related concerns. This surprising revelation came during a recent interview, where the former US President discussed his health, including his choice to undergo a cardiovascular and abdominal scan in the previous year.

Interestingly, it was unveiled that the 79-year-old regularly takes a daily anti-inflammatory drug as a “cardiac prevention” measure, as stated by his physician, Navy Capt. Sean Barbabella. While the NHS typically advises a 75mg daily dose of aspirin to prevent heart attacks or strokes, Barbabella noted that Trump opts for 325 milligrams instead.

Trump acknowledged that this substantial dosage has led to easy bruising and mentioned that his doctors have recommended reducing it. However, he reportedly rejected the suggestion, citing his 25-year history with the higher dose as a reason for his decision.

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Trump remarked, “I’m a bit superstitious. They say aspirin is beneficial for thinning blood, and I prefer not to have thick blood circulating through my heart. I’d rather have it nice and thin. Does that make sense?”

Regarding his preference for the higher dose, the MAGA leader explained, “They would prefer I take the smaller dose. I stick with the larger one, but I’ve been doing it for years, and it does cause bruising.”

The NHS suggests that aspirin can be effective in reducing the risk of strokes and heart attacks in individuals at high risk. Doctors may sometimes advise a daily low dose for patients who have experienced these health issues.

It may also be suggested for pregnant women if they’re at risk of high blood pressure, have preexisting health issues that require them to take aspirin, or they’ve had a number of miscarriages or pregnancy complications in the past.

The drug makes an individual’s blood “less sticky”, according to the health service, with people often taking a dose of 75mg, although it acknowledged that sometimes, this can be higher.

Mayo Clinic guidance notes that the dose can range between 75mg and 325mg, and the risk of these cardiac issues rises as you age, but the risk of bleeding from aspirin “goes up even more”.

It wouldn’t be the first time that Trump’s health has made headlines, however. In October last year, reports surfaced that the US President had undergone a “routine yearly checkup” at the Walter Reed Medical Centre in Bethesda, Maryland.

In a one-page memo, Barbabella stated:”President Donald J. Trump remains in exceptional health, exhibiting strong cardiovascular, pulmonary, neurological and physical performance.”

He reportedly also received a Covid-19 booster vaccine and his yearly flu jab. In the recent Wall Street Journal interview this month, Trump added: “Genetics are very important. And I have very good genetics.”
