Cathrin Kennedy (Marion County Jail).

A Florida woman is facing serious charges after an afternoon intended for making pizza turned into a violent altercation, resulting in her allegedly slitting her boyfriend’s throat.

Cathrin Kennedy, 35, has been charged with attempted first-degree murder. According to a probable cause affidavit sourced by Law&Crime, Kennedy contacted the Marion County Sheriff’s Office on Friday, claiming that her boyfriend had just left their residence after “slitting his own throat” and was on his way to the hospital.

Upon arriving at the hospital, deputies discovered the victim with a knife wound to his throat. They proceeded to the couple’s home, where they observed blood droplets on the floor and a large kitchen knife in the sink. Kennedy was found with blood on her right hand. She maintained that her boyfriend had gone out to his car with a knife and injured himself while sitting in the driver’s seat, as noted in the affidavit.

According to Kennedy, the blood on her hand was a result of reaching into his car after he allegedly stabbed himself. Investigators reported that she could not provide an explanation for the blood found inside the home.

Meanwhile, at the hospital, the boyfriend presented a different account. He told authorities that he had known Kennedy for about a year, and they began living together after her recent release from jail. He described that their day started around 9 a.m. with a few drinks, followed by cooking a pizza around noon. An argument erupted, during which she allegedly picked up a large knife and approached him.

“He stated she then sliced his throat slowly and he did not even realize what was happening,” deputies documented in their report.

He grabbed a towel and drove himself to the emergency room.

In an interview after being given her Miranda rights, Kennedy said her boyfriend became “belligerent” and started “going crazy,” the affidavit stated. She reiterated her story about the victim getting into his car where she saw him “making a cutting motion across his neck,” cops wrote.

Kennedy said she called 911 after he left because she was “fearful he would become incapacitated,” the affidavit said.

Cops concluded the stabbing occurred in the home and not the car since there was blood all over the living room, dining room and kitchen. There also was no knife in the boyfriend’s car, police said.

The suspect was arrested and taken to the Marion County Jail where she remains without bond. Her next court date is set for Feb. 3.
