Sendle shuts down
Australian parcel and courier service Sendle has suddenly ceased operations, leaving small businesses in limbo.

Sendle, a company established in 2014, announced a sudden suspension of its services through an email sent to its customers. The message, dated January 11, stated that all new bookings would cease “effective immediately.”

The communication further clarified the status of current deliveries, noting, “If you have any existing or scheduled bookings with us, please be aware that any parcels already picked up and in transit will be delivered at the discretion of the delivery partner.”

“We usually alternate between Sendle and Australia Post. With the ongoing frustrations around Australia Post, we were in the process of moving all our postage to Sendle – so this update has left us feeling high and dry,” Segal told nine.com.au.

According to Sendle’s representative, Segal, the service has been “generally much cheaper” compared to using Australia Post for parcel deliveries.

Sendle promotes itself on its website as a more cost-effective alternative to both parcel post and express post options.

For example, sending a three-kilogram package through Sendle costs $13.20.

Comparatively, shipping the same weight through Australia Post would cost $19.30.

Sendle raised $45 million during a funding round in 2021 to help it expand to the US.

Sendle has been contacted for comment.
