A suspected bull shark has bitten an 11-year-old boy’s surfboard on Sydney‘s Northern Beaches, the day after another was mauled at a beach in the city’s east.

A shark incident occurred at Dee Why Beach today, where an estimated 15cm piece was taken out of a boy’s surfboard at approximately 11:45 a.m. by a shark near Dee Why Point.

Fortunately, the boy, aided by lifesavers, emerged from the frightening encounter without any injuries.

Experts from the NSW Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development conducted a photo analysis of the bite, pointing to a bull shark as the likely culprit.

In response to the incident, teams from the department, lifesavers, and local council are actively addressing the situation.

Currently, jet skis are patrolling the waters, and a drone is being used to monitor the area from above for the rest of the afternoon and into the next day.

As a precautionary measure, Dee Why Beach will remain closed for at least the next 24 hours.

All other ocean beaches on the Northern Beaches, except for Palm Beach, remained closed today due to dangerous surf conditions.

Swimmers are advised to be careful, avoid the beaches, and stay clear of low-visibility and murky water.

He suffered serious injuries to both legs and was pulled from the water by his friends and emergency services.

He is fighting for his life at Sydney Children’s Hospital.
