In a tragic incident that has left the local community in shock, the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man this weekend suspected of fatally shooting three out-of-state tourists at a rental home. The seemingly random act of violence has raised significant concerns about safety in the area.

Deputies were dispatched to the scene around 12:14 p.m. on Saturday, responding to a report of a shooting at 296 Indian Point Circle. Upon arrival, they discovered three men outside the residence, all suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite efforts to save them, the men were declared dead shortly after.

During a press briefing on Sunday, Osceola County Sheriff Christopher Blackmon revealed that the victims were tourists who found themselves stranded at their rental home due to vehicle issues.

The deceased were identified as Robert Lewis Kraft, 70, from Holland, Michigan; Douglas Joseph Kraft, 68, from Columbus, Ohio; and James John Puchan, 69, also from Columbus, Ohio. Sheriff Blackmon noted that the group consisted of four men, though one had left the day prior to the shooting. Robert and Douglas Kraft were siblings, with Douglas being the twin of the fourth man who had already departed.

“This was a completely random act,” Sheriff Blackmon stated. “There was no prior conflict between these individuals. The perpetrator was simply a neighbor.” The randomness of the event has left many grappling with the implications for community safety.

Investigators say the suspect, 29-year old Ahmad Bojeh, was quickly located after the shooting and ran back to his home next door to the rental property, where he was taken into custody. Deputies recovered two weapons from inside the home. Authorities say work is ongoing to determine which, if either, was used in the shooting.

Bojeh has been booked into the Osceola County Jail and is expected to face three counts of first-degree murder.

Neighbors say the violence was sudden and terrifying.

“It just sounded like popping sounds — like pop, pop, pop,” said Alexis Patterson, who lives nearby. “To know it was three rounds and three men lost their lives, it had to be one per person.”

The sheriff confirmed that Bojeh had been known to law enforcement prior to Saturday’s shooting.

“We had a lot of calls for service for people in this area,” Blackmon said. “He was a known person — a frequent flyer.”

Court records show Bojeh was arrested in 2021 after allegedly shooting at a person and at random vehicles in a Kissimmee gas station parking lot. He was later acquitted by reason of insanity.

On Monday, Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier criticized State Attorney Monique Worrell on social media, accusing her office of not aggressively challenging Bojeh’s insanity defense, which allowed him to go free.

Some neighbors say they noticed a change in Bojeh’s behavior after the 2021 incident.

“He was a nice kid, but after 2021, I don’t know what happened — it was like a whole new person,” Patterson said. “Why would you let him back out if he is pleading insanity?”

We took several concerns to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, asking whether there were any requirements or safeguards in place following Bojeh’s acquittal, given that he remained in the community and is now accused in a triple homicide. The sheriff’s office referred questions to the State Attorney’s Office, which released a statement saying it cannot comment beyond what has already been made public but will release information when it becomes pertinent.

Meanwhile, residents say fear and frustration are growing.

“To think there is a school right behind my home, and someone who had been acquitted because they were insane was living in my neighborhood — I don’t understand how the justice system lets that happen,” said neighbor Debora Knight.

Patterson added that the randomness of the attack is what troubles her most. “It just shows that no matter what, in a matter of minutes or seconds, your whole life can change.”

In a joint statement released Monday, the families of the victims confirmed the deaths and described the men as beloved husbands, fathers, grandfathers, brothers, and friends. They say they’re going through an unexpected and unimaginable pain they can’t put into words.

To read the full joint statement from the families of Douglas Kraft, Robert Kraft, and James Puchan, see below:

With heavy hearts we confirm the deaths of our beloved husbands, fathers, grandfathers, uncles, brothers, and friends — Douglas Kraft of Columbus, Ohio; Robert Kraft of Holland, Michigan; and James Puchan of Galena, Ohio. They attended the Mecum Car Show in Kissimmee, Florida with brothers and longtime friends and were staying at an Airbnb. While waiting for assistance after rental car trouble and preparing to travel home, they were being observed from a distance by an unknown individual who was well-known to local law enforcement. There were no known interactions between the men and this individual prior to the event; they were then approached and senselessly murdered. This was a random, tragic act.

These three wonderful men did not deserve this. Our families are left with an unexpected, unimaginable loss that cannot be put into words. We ask for privacy, prayers, and respect as we mourn and begin to process this tragedy.

We are grateful for the outpouring of concern and for the quick response efforts of local law enforcement, the detectives, the medical examiners, and the various state agencies who are assisting with this investigation. Further details will be shared by our families or official representatives when appropriate. For now, please respect our need for space and time to grieve.

We have no additional comments from any of the three families at this time. Service information will be shared when it is available.

    The investigation remains ongoing.
