A woman fueled by jealousy has been taken into custody after allegedly hurling a 25-pound weight at a perceived romantic competitor, police reported.

Authorities from the Harris County Constable Precinct 4 Office stated that Aralyn Martinez, 24, encountered someone she believed was romantically linked with her partner at a 24 Hour Fitness location near Spring, Texas, on January 7. In response, she allegedly threw a heavy weight plate at the woman’s head with the intent to harm.

According to charging documents provided to KHOU 11, Martinez was heard shouting, “B—-, I’m going to drop this 25-pound weight plate on you.”

In an incident captured on cellphone video, Martinez is seen threatening to use the weight against the woman before launching it in her direction. Fortunately, the targeted woman managed to dodge the weight just in time, avoiding any serious injury, as reported by the news outlet.

“Incidents like this are rare, especially involving weights at a gym,” remarked Precinct 4 Capt. Juan Flores to the local media. “A 25-pound weight, or any weight for that matter, could be a lethal weapon depending on the impact point.”

“Not very often with weights and not very often at a gym,” Precinct 4 Capt. Juan Flores told the local outlet. “We do know a 25-pound weight, or any weight, can be a deadly weapon depending on where you hit the person.”

Flores said people nearby intervened and were able to calm the situation before it escalated further.

Her arraignment was scheduled for Thursday. Fox News Digital reached out to the Harris County Constable Precinct 4 Office for comment.

“Facts giving rise to probable cause suggest that alcohol was a factor in this offense,” the judge overseeing the case wrote in an order setting bond conditions, according to Law & Crime.
