Andre McAfee is facing serious charges including aggravated assault, simple assault, and reckless endangerment. These charges were filed by the Hanover Police Department, who responded to the domestic disturbance call.

The events unfolded on a Monday evening around 8:15 p.m. at a residence on the 600 block of E. Walnut Street. According to a probable cause affidavit, it was the victim’s son who alerted authorities, reporting that his stepfather had violently pushed his mother down the stairs, leaving her unresponsive and bleeding.

Upon their arrival, officers encountered McAfee, who attempted to explain the situation by claiming his wife had tripped over some shoes on the landing, leading to her fall. However, the son recounted a different version of events, explaining that his mother and McAfee were in a heated argument about a hoodie left in their car parked outside the home. As they were descending the stairs, a “loud thump” caught his attention, prompting him to discover his mother lying unconscious at the bottom of a second staircase in the basement.

In a chilling remark, McAfee allegedly stated that “she shouldn’t have gotten in his way,” further complicating his defense against the charges he now faces.

The suspect was taken to the York County Jail where he has since posted a $100,000 bond. He has a preliminary hearing set for Feb. 3.
