Diane Keaton's daughter Dexter posts somber tribute to late actress

Diane Keaton’s daughter, Dexter Keaton White, remembered the Oscar-winning actress on Sunday, marking one year since her mother died at age 79 after battling bacterial pneumonia.

Dexter, 30, posted a black-and-white wedding photograph showing her alongside Keaton at her 2021 marriage to Jordan White.

“One year without you, Mom,” Dexter wrote. “It somehow feels like yesterday and forever ago all at once.”

She said she was still adjusting to life without being able to call her mother, share a hug or set off on another adventure together.

Dexter added that it was the ordinary, everyday moments that most often reminded her of how deeply she wished Keaton were still alive.

“I love you and I miss you. Always,” she concluded.

Keaton, known for films including Annie Hall, The Godfather and The First Wives Club, adopted Dexter in 1996. She later adopted her son, Duke, in 2001; he is now 25.

Since her mother’s death, Dexter has shared several tributes online celebrating Keaton’s life and their relationship.

In May, she honored Keaton with an emotional Mother’s Day post featuring a series of photos of the pair.

“First Mother’s Day without you,” Dexter wrote. “I miss you more than words can say. Missing her voice, her hugs, her presence, and everything that made her home. I love you, Mom.”

Earlier this year, Dexter also marked what would have been Keaton’s 80th birthday.

On January 5, she shared a photo of herself with Keaton standing in front of the ocean, captioning the image, “I miss you, Mom.”

The post also included a photograph of a tattoo Dexter had gotten following her mother’s death.

For Mother’s Day in 2014, Dexter had praised Keaton on Instagram as “a strong, beautiful, and talented woman.”

“I couldn’t thank you enough for everything you’ve done for me. I love you!” Dexter added.

In a 2008 interview with Ladies’ Home Journal, Keaton spoke candidly about becoming a parent, saying she had never expected to feel fully prepared for motherhood.

“Motherhood was not an urge I couldn’t resist,” she said. “It was more like a thought I’d been thinking for a very long time. So I plunged in.”

Keaton left behind an amazing legacy in Hollywood, with some of her performances in the 1970s hailed as the decade’s best. They included the titular role in the 1977 comedy Annie Hall, which was written and directed by Woody Allen, who she collaborated with on a number of memorable projects.

Keaton in 1978 would claim the Best Actress in a Leading Role award for her work in Annie Hall, her first of four lifetime nominations.

She would also receive nods for her work in movies such as 1981’s Reds, 1996’s Marvin’s Room and 2003’s Something’s Gotta Give.

Other notable movies Keaton performed in throughout her decades-long career included 1987’s Baby Boom; 1996’s The First Wives Club; and the Father of the Bride films in 1991 and 1995.
