Trump Puts Mayor Jacob Frey on Notice Over ‘Serious Violation’ of the Law: He’s ‘Playing With Fire’

On Wednesday, President Trump issued a stern warning to Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, criticizing the Democrat for his city’s ongoing defiance of federal immigration enforcement. This public rebuke came even after Frey’s meeting with Border Czar Tom Homan.

Homan, responsible for coordinating the apprehension of undocumented immigrants, had traveled to Minneapolis with hopes of fostering a more collaborative relationship between local authorities and federal immigration officials.

Despite the meeting, Mayor Frey took to social media to affirm his decision to persist with Minneapolis’s current stance, reminiscent of Governor Walz’s approach, by focusing primarily on his own agenda.

“I communicated to Mr. Homan the significant negative repercussions this operation has had on Minneapolis and its surrounding areas, alongside the pressure it has imposed on our local law enforcement,” Frey stated, before delivering a decisive message.

“I also clarified that Minneapolis does not and will not implement federal immigration laws, as our priority remains the safety of our community and streets,” he added.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (D) and the President seemed to tout a more collaborative effort following the meeting with Homan and reported phone conversations, one that strikes a balance between removing criminal illegal aliens from the North Star State and avoiding the chaos we’ve seen in recent weeks.

In fact, Trump even said the meeting with Frey went well.

“I had two very good talks. I had Jacob Frey, and I had Governor Walz,” he said Tuesday morning on WABC radio’s “Sid & Friends in the Morning.” “They were great calls, so let’s see how they’re reported. But they were very nice calls, very respectful.”

Trump expressed “hope” that both conversations would yield results. Meanwhile, Walz said he had noticed “a more collaborative tone” between all parties.

Yet Frey’s swift social media post—reaffirming non-enforcement—appeared to undercut any budding goodwill from those ‘productive’ discussions.

As a result, Trump posted a warning to the mayor on Truth Social early Wednesday morning.

“Surprisingly, Mayor Jacob Frey just stated that, ‘Minneapolis does not, and will not, enforce Federal Immigration Laws.’ This is after having had a very good conversation with him,” the President wrote. “Could somebody in his inner sanctum please explain that this statement is a very serious violation of the Law, and that he is PLAYING WITH FIRE!”

Trump views Frey’s stance as a direct challenge that could trigger escalated federal responses, such as continuing or intensifying the surge or renewed efforts to withhold funding, despite court precedents protecting non-cooperation.

Frey is playing with fire. But that’s his schtick, isn’t it? Without the chaos and anarchy in his city, which he intentionally incites, nobody would care about this diminutive pro-illegal warrior.

Minutes ago, the mayor responded to Trump, continuing his defiance to the detriment of Minneapolis’s citizens.

“The job of our police is to keep people safe, not enforce fed immigration laws. I want them preventing homicides, not hunting down a working dad who contributes to MPLS & is from Ecuador,” he said on X. “It’s similar to the policy your guy Rudy had in NYC. Everyone should feel safe calling 911.”

Imagine the intellectual disconnect involved in thinking you’re keeping people safe by allowing criminals to run rampant throughout the city. What a rube.
