A tragic incident in California has left a family grieving after a pregnant woman was killed by a suspected drunk driver. The woman, on her way home from In-N-Out Burger, was fulfilling a craving when her life was cut short. She was pregnant with her second child and leaves behind a 4-year-old son, according to her family.

“I personally don’t know how to answer, ‘Where’s my mommy?'” said Viri Esquivel, the sister of 24-year-old Bianca Esquivel, during an interview with the local ABC station KABC. “Because his mommy isn’t coming back.”

Daniel Ramos, also 24, is facing serious charges including felony DUI and vehicular manslaughter following the accident that took place in Anaheim. According to KABC, Bianca was accompanied by her boyfriend, Oscar, who has chosen to keep his last name private, when the crash occurred. The couple had been out to satisfy Bianca’s pregnancy cravings at In-N-Out Burger.

“We were laughing on the way back, just enjoying our time,” Oscar recounted to KABC. “Everything happened so fast. She screamed, ‘Oh my god.'”

Oscar described Bianca as his best friend, sharing how they were eagerly preparing for their growing family. “We were so excited. We were already planning stuff, buying clothes,” he added.

Authorities report that Bianca was a passenger while Oscar was behind the wheel when Ramos allegedly ran a red light and collided with their vehicle at the intersection of North Anaheim Boulevard and the 91 Freeway frontage road. Viri Esquivel, Bianca’s sister, hurried to the scene after receiving an alert from Bianca’s phone, which had detected the crash through its emergency contact settings.

“I was her emergency contact on her cellphone, so the SOS detected a car crash, and it gave me the exact location,” Viri Esquivel said, noting that her sister “was very excited with her second child.”

Ramos, who was driving with two passengers, is accused of running a red light in his Lexus sedan before slamming into the Toyota sedan that Oscar and Bianca Esquivel were in. Bianca was found trapped in the Toyota and was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Due to the victim being pregnant, additional charges may be considered pending the outcome of the investigation,” Anaheim police said in a press release. The district attorney’s office is probing the case.

“Bianca was a devoted mother, a beloved sister and daughter, and a caring girlfriend,” a GoFundMe explains. “She was preparing to return to school to pursue a degree in accounting and had her entire life ahead of her.”
