NEW YORK — On Thursday, Harry Styles revealed plans for his first tour in nearly three years, sparking an overwhelming rush for tickets. The demand was so high that ticket prices soared into the thousands even before the presale commenced.

The “Together Together” world tour kicks off in May, with Styles’ New York residency spanning 30 performances at Madison Square Garden from late August to the end of October.

Presale for the New York shows started as early as Monday, yet tickets were already being offered for astronomical prices, ranging from hundreds to thousands of dollars, which drew the attention of New York state Senator James Skoufis.

“Harry Styles’ NYC residency hasn’t even started, and tickets are already fetching up to $10k on StubHub,” Skoufis commented on social media on January 24. “This is speculative ticket selling: scalpers peddling tickets they don’t actually possess. This is why my bill to ban speculative tickets is essential.”

Despite the presale launch, eager fans continued to spend hundreds, if not thousands, for a chance to see Styles perform at Madison Square Garden.

Tickets vary depending on where fans buy them and the night of the show, but $428 including fees on 
StubHub was the cheapest we could find for the entire residency. 

Ticketmaster recorded 11.5 million sign-ups for the tickets, calling it the highest volume ever recorded for a presale in New York, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Madison Square Garden’s capacity is roughly 19,500 people for an event.

The prices sparked online disappointment and debate over who sets the ticket costs for tours. 

“Hey @Harry_Styles as someone who’s loved you for almost 14 years and went to all the tours, I’m at a loss for words over how much you/your team seem to have lost touch with reality in terms of residency shows and ticket prices. Music should be accessible. Remember how you started,” one user posted on X, who got more than 38,000 likes.

Another person, who shared a screenshot on Threads of two tickets totaling $1,532.80, wrote, “I’m sorry Harry but I just can’t justify spending an entire paycheck on 2 concert tickets.”

Ticketmaster previously capped ticket resale prices for Grammy-nominated singer, songwriter Olivia Dean’s ongoing tour after fans complained about pricing.

Depending on which day customers select, a single ticket for the MSG show ranges in cost from as low as $428 to as high as $5,008 on Stubhub.

General tickets officially go on sale Friday, Jan. 30 at 11 a.m. EST, according to Styles’ website.

£1 from every ticket sale will be donated to the LIVE Trust, an organization which goes to “directly supporting the UK’s grassroots venues,” according to the Music Venue Trust.

Special guests on the tour include Robyn, Shania Twain, Fcukers, Jorja Smith, Jamie xx, Foushee, Sky Newman and Baby J.

Styles announced his fourth studio album last week, titled “Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally,” out March 6. It follows the 2022 critically acclaimed synth pop record “Harry’s House,” which earned the former One Direction star the top prize of album of the year at the 2023 Grammy Awards.
