President Donald Trump today threatened Canada with a 50 per cent tariff on any aircraft sold in the US, the latest salvo in his trade war with America’s northern neighbour as his feud with Prime Minister Mark Carney expands.
Trump’s threat posted on social media came after he threatened over the weekend to impose a 100 per cent tariff on goods imported from Canada if it went forward with a planned trade deal with China.

Former President Trump issued a warning without specifying when new import taxes would be applied, despite Canada having reached an agreement.

In his latest statement, Trump, a Republican, announced he was responding to Canada’s decision not to approve jets manufactured by Gulfstream Aerospace, based in Savannah, Georgia.

Trump declared that in retaliation, the United States would revoke the certification of all Canadian aircraft, targeting major manufacturers like Bombardier.

“Should this issue not be resolved immediately, I will impose a 50% tariff on any aircraft sold from Canada to the United States,” Trump stated in his message.

Representatives for Bombardier and Canada’s transport minister have not yet replied to requests for comment today.
