John Harbaugh retains Chad Hall as Giants’ receivers coach for Malik Nabers

Chad Hall is set to make a transition from coaching Jaxson Dart to working with Malik Nabers.

According to CBS Sports, the new head coach of the New York Giants, John Harbaugh, is anticipated to appoint Hall, who has been the assistant quarterbacks coach since 2025, as the team’s wide receivers coach for the upcoming 2026 NFL season.

Hall, who is 39, offers continuity for the Giants’ offensive lineup, remaining a key figure from Dart’s rookie year as the team undergoes changes. The previous staff, including Brian Daboll, Mike Kafka, and Shea Tierney, have all moved on.

This new role takes Hall back to a familiar setting, focusing on the receivers—a specialty area from his playing days.

During his coaching career, Hall has mentored standout players such as Stefon Diggs, Gabe Davis, and Brian Thomas Jr. with the Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars from 2019 to 2024.

Hall joined the Giants last offseason amid the team’s interest in acquiring his brother-in-law, Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, through a trade. However, Stafford chose to remain with the Los Angeles Rams.

But Hall managed to convince Harbaugh that his one year of work with Dart and the Giants’ offense will be able to help the players translate their 2025 work to the playbook of whatever offensive coordinator Harbaugh hires.

Harbaugh already had shown interest in Hall before when Hall interviewed for the Baltimore Ravens’ offensive coordinator vacancy in Jan. 2023, as well.

Hall succeeds Mike Groh, who coached the Giants’ receivers for Daboll’s full three-and-a-half term as head coach.

The question now is who Harbaugh is going to hire to run Dart’s offense. The team missed out on its top choice, former Ravens OC Todd Monken, who chose the Cleveland Browns’ head coaching job instead.

Hall returning as wide receivers could offer a clue to Broncos QB coach Davis Webb being a real possibility for the Giants, since Webb was on the Bills’ roster from 2019-21 while Hall coached their wideouts.

But Webb also is considered the front runner to be promoted to Denver’s offensive coordinator position on Sean Payton’s staff — although it’s possible the Giants could have a leg up on Denver in being able to offer Webb playcalling duties, something Payton does himself in Denver.

Kliff Kingsbury remains the biggest name available on the free agent offensive coordinator board at the moment, and Harbaugh must exhaust all options and resources to identify the best fit for Dart and for his offense.

As for Hall, he could end up having to start the 2026 season with Nabers still sidelined by a surgically repaired ACL. So this will be no easy task in year one. Then again, the Giants have some high draft picks and could add more talent to that room in a few months, too.

ANOTHER FAMILIAR FACE ON DEFENSE

Harbaugh also is hiring Ravens defensive backs coach Donald D’Alesio, per CBS Sports, with the title of defensive pass game coordinator and secondary coach, per ESPN.

D’Alesio interestingly does not have experience coaching with Giants new defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson, who held the Ravens’ defensive backs coach title in 2023, two years before D’Alesio.

But they are both trusted former Harbaugh Baltimore assistants with experience knowing what the head coach expects from that side of the ball.

The Giants’ secondary is in major need of a jumpstart after a horrendous season on the back end courtesy of poor drafting, unnecessarily frequent staff turnover and lackadaisical play.

D’Alesio should be receiving reinforcements from the draft, though. Harbaugh has a history of prioritizing corners and safeties in play acquisition.
