Iran's chilling threat to US as warships near

Iran’s supreme leader has warned that any attack by the US would spark a “regional war” in the Middle East, further escalating tensions as President Donald Trump has threatened to militarily strike the Islamic Republic over its crackdown on recent nationwide protests.

The 86-year-old Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has issued one of his most pointed warnings yet, as the USS Abraham Lincoln and other U.S. naval vessels patrol the Arabian Sea. These ships, dispatched by President Trump, follow the Iranian regime’s harsh response to widespread protests.

President Trump’s intentions remain ambiguous, despite his frequent claims that Iran is eager to negotiate. He also highlights the importance of addressing Tehran’s nuclear ambitions.

During a Saturday evening discussion, Trump did not disclose whether he had made a decision regarding actions against Iran.

When questioned by reporters about the potential effects of the U.S. refraining from striking Iran, Trump avoided a direct answer, noting, “Some people think that. Some people don’t.”

Trump urged Iran to agree to a “satisfactory” deal to prevent them from obtaining nuclear weapons, stating, “I don’t know that they will. But they are talking to us. Seriously talking to us.”
