The Department of Justice has stated that the individual in question could face a minimum of 10 years in federal prison.
In Jacksonville, Florida, a local man has confessed to charges of attempting to lure a minor into sexual activity, as revealed by the Department of Justice on Tuesday.
The man, identified as 37-year-old Tony Leroy Bartley Jr., is looking at a potential life sentence. He faces a mandatory minimum of 10 years behind bars and could be subjected to supervised release for the rest of his life.
According to the DOJ, between June 17 and July 30, 2025, Bartley engaged in conversations with an undercover FBI agent on a social media platform. He reportedly used the alias ‘keven.’
When the agent posed as a 13-year-old girl, Bartley allegedly suggested engaging in sexually explicit text exchanges.
During their interactions, Bartley is said to have described various “sexual acts he wanted to perform” and even sent a lewd photograph, as per the DOJ’s report.
According to the DOJ, Bartley was arrested by FBI agents on Aug. 5, 2025. During an interview, Bartley is said to have confirmed that he had exchanged messages having to do with sexual activity with someone underage.
“I should have stopped at 13, and that’s on me,” Bartley said.
Bartley’s scheduling hearing is set for April 21, 2026.
