College Student Still Missing Nearly 2 Weeks After He Vanishes Near Woods

A reward has been announced for any information that could lead to finding a New Jersey man who disappeared last November.

The missing individual, Mortimer Wortman, a student at Rutgers University, was last spotted in the parking area of Regional Day School in Jackson on November 21. While the authorities have not confirmed whether his disappearance is due to foul play, Wortman’s brother has expressed a desire for the arrest of a man who was incarcerated in July for threatening Wortman and a woman with a knife, as reported by NJ.com.

The man in question, though not formally charged in relation to Wortman’s disappearance, reportedly met with Wortman at Regional High School on the evening he went missing. He informed the police that during their encounter, a heated argument ensued, prompting Wortman to flee into the nearby woods, according to NJ.com.

The nature of Wortman’s relationship with this individual remains undisclosed. Additionally, the man allegedly delayed reporting Wortman as missing for 16 hours.

Despite the discovery of Wortman’s vehicle at the school, he has yet to be located.

Mortimer Wortman is characterized as being 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing approximately 200 pounds, with dark brown hair and brown eyes. He is known to have a nose piercing and multiple earrings in both ears. At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing a black T-shirt, a burgundy hoodie, and blue jeans.

Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts should call Jackson police at 732-928-1111 and press “0” to speak with a dispatcher.

Mortimer Wortman’s case is being covered as part of Crime Online’s “Finding the Lost: Black and Missing” series, which will feature a missing Black person every day in February. The full series can be read here.
