Coalition reunion expected soon following messy split over hate laws

The Liberals and Nationals could be one step closer to reuniting the Coalition, after a messy split over the federal government’s hate speech laws.
Speculation is rife that an 11th-hour deal was reached during talks yesterday between Sussan Ley and David Littleproud about the future of three Nationals senators who crossed the floor over the hate bill.

An important announcement about the Coalition is anticipated later today.

The Coalition has split for the second time in less than a year as Opposition Leader Sussan Ley refuses to comment and Nationals Leader David Littleproud rules the agreement with the Liberal Party as "untenable".

Charles Croucher, Nine’s political editor, has revealed that the Nationals and Liberals are reuniting. However, they need to finalize the details concerning the reinstatement of the Nationals senators.

Croucher noted, “The Nationals and Liberals, who have been on the sidelines, are joining forces again to reorganize within the parliament.”

He added, “Reuniting is a step forward, but the Liberal and National parties have a significant journey ahead to reestablish any form of effective opposition.”

Recently, Bridget McKenzie, Ross Cadell, and Susan McDonald diverged from their parties to vote against a hate speech bill in the Senate.
