Dixmoor water news: Two water main breaks on 143rd repaired, village officials say

In Dixmoor, Illinois, two significant water main breaks that disrupted local services have now been resolved, officials announced on Sunday.

The second break surfaced on Saturday, shortly after repairs had been completed on an earlier incident that had affected numerous homes throughout the area.

The village has faced a string of similar issues over the last month, putting a spotlight on its aging infrastructure.

Village President Fitzgerald Roberts highlighted the issue in a statement on Saturday evening, noting, “The water main break is located at 143rd and Marshfield in Dixmoor, IL. Approximately 50 homes are affected, and these homes currently have no water service due to the break. Crews are actively working on repairs, though no precise timeline for completion is available yet.”

Later on Saturday, a village spokesperson reported that while the initial break had been fixed, a new problem had emerged nearby. By Sunday, officials confirmed that the second issue had also been addressed.

“The water main break at 143rd and Page Ave. in Dixmoor has been repaired,” Roberts stated. He further explained, “On Saturday, crews successfully repaired a break at 143rd and Marshfield, only to discover another issue shortly after. Teams worked diligently this morning on the new break at 143rd and Page Avenue, with repairs finalized around 3 PM. Fortunately, there is no boil water advisory in effect.”

One of the water main breaks last month forced two schools to close down while crews got to work on repairs. Another break last week impacted more than half of all Dixmoor residents.

The village says the old infrastructure is partially to blame and leaders continue to push for more funding to make much needed improvements.

“We still need more funding to take care of this infrastructure out here,” Roberts said last week. “I say over and over again this infrastructure is over 100 years old plus when you have hot to cold, or if it’s too hot you’re going to have pipes that break.”
