Newly released bodycam video shows a startling eviction encounter in Oklahoma City, where a naked man allegedly aimed a homemade flamethrower at law enforcement officers inside an apartment.
Deputies with the Oklahoma Sheriff’s Department arrived shortly before noon on Aug. 11 to carry out an eviction order at a residence on South Harvey Avenue in Oklahoma City.
The dramatic footage shows three officers positioned outside the unit, repeatedly calling for the occupant to open the door before forcing their way in through an entrance that appeared to be blocked by a large object.
Once inside, the deputies moved carefully through the dark apartment with flashlights drawn, continuing to identify themselves as they searched the rooms.
In one dimly lit room, the officers’ flashlights landed on a naked man seated in a chair and holding an object, prompting repeated commands for him to drop it.
Moments later, the confrontation escalated when the suspect appeared to ignite a makeshift flamethrower with aerosol spray, sending a burst of flames toward the officers, according to ABC5.
Authorities then cleared the entire apartment building while a bomb squad was brought in to safely disable and remove the device.
The man was taken into custody and first transported to a Veterans Affairs hospital for medical stress before later being moved to a mental health facility, the outlet reported.
He now faces several charges, including assault, obstruction, and use of explosives.
