As police carried out a search of her home, the mother-in-law of the primary suspect in Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance has come forward to express her support for him.

Speaking to NewsNation, an Arizona woman named Josefina voiced her conviction that her son-in-law is not involved in the incident.

Josefina stated that her son-in-law was present at their Rio Rico residence at the time Nancy vanished.

Authorities detained the suspect during a traffic stop near the Mexican border.

Following a brief detention, he was released and explained to reporters that he had been working as a food delivery driver when officers apprehended him.

Josefina recounted to NewsNation, “My daughter, her husband, and my grandkids were out doing DoorDash when they were pulled over.”

She also told CNN that authorities are searching her home after they received a tip relating to the ongoing investigation.

‘I told them you can go in and search my house, there is nobody there. I have nothing to hide,’ Josefina said.

She insisted that her son-in-law had ‘nothing to do’ with the 84-year-old’s disappearance, as authorities continue to investigate the detained man.

Josefina added that police did not present a search warrant before entering her home.

‘I’m sorry what’s happened to [the Guthries],’ she said.

‘I don’t know her, I don’t know anything about their lives or what’s going on, but I’m so sorry – whoever took her, I hope she got back safe.’

Authorities also showed Josefina the surveillance footage of the suspect from Nancy Guthrie’s ring camera, but she said there was no resemblance to her son-in-law.

Video showed an armed figure clad in a ski mask and carrying a backpack, wearing black latex gloves.

Tampered evidence

The suspect can also be seen tampering with the mother-of-three’s Nest doorbell camera and ripping the camera from its holder on the door frame.

‘They showed me a video to see if it was him, to see … if I recognize the things he was wearing, he doesn’t have any of that.’

‘He doesn’t have anything that comes in the video,’ she told ABC15’s Lillian Donahue.

Josefina said her son-in-law was a ‘good guy,’ and has no prior criminal record, assuring that she was ‘positive’ he was at home when Guthrie was snatched.

‘On the weekends, he stays at my house. He doesn’t go nowhere,’ she told the outlet.

It is unclear whether police believe the detained person is the armed figure in the video.

Authorities were seen searching a gray SUV in connection with the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, footage from the scene in Rio Rico shows.

The Rio Rico takedown

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department confirmed to CNN that the vehicle was the same one pulled over during a traffic stop during which a man was taken into custody for questioning.

Footage from the scene shows the vehicle surrounded by Pima County Sheriff’s Department vehicles and Marana Police cars.

A witness who spoke exclusively to the Daily Mail described the traffic stop where the person of interest was detained.

‘There were five or six unmarked cars and they had a silver SUV pulled over, a police car facing it. Two guys were out of a car, and their hats said “FBI,”‘ Krystal Bacica recounted.

‘The only police car that was marked said Marana Police,’ she continued, noting that ‘they pulled the car right in front of my apartment building in Frontage Road, Rio Rico.’

Report: Nancy Guthrie’s pacemaker stopped syncing with her Apple Watch  when abducted

Investigators have discovered Nancy Guthrie’s pacemaker stopped syncing with her Apple Watch when was abducted in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Police sources revealed that the 84-year-old’s heart device stopped sending data to the high-tech watch around 2am Sunday, reports Fox News.

Investigators told the outlet that Nancy’s Apple Watch was left inside her home, which likely means the devices stopped ‘syncing’ when the pacemaker was out of range from the watch.

Apple Watches allow users to connect health devices including pacemakers to monitor their vital signs via Bluetooth.

Pacemakers are surgically-implanted devices used to treat irregular heart rhythms and work by sending a small electrical signal to the vital organ.

Officials previously said Nancy, whose daughter is Today show host Savannah Guthrie, was last seen at her home around 9:45pm on Saturday evening.

The Apple Watch data offers a possible time of kidnapping and offers a horrifying fresh perspective on the Daily Mail’s revelation that Nancy was dragged from her bed in the dead of night.

Law enforcement sources say that ‘blood drops’ were found leading from the entryway of the house to the driveway, and a doorbell camera she owned was removed by the time investigators arrived on Sunday.

Report: Investigators collecting DNA from household staff in Guthrie case

Nancy Guthrie’s household employees have been swabbed for DNA as the investigation into her disappearance takes a new turn.

The 84-year-old mother of NBC News Today host Savannah Guthrie went missing in the early hours of February 1 and she has not been seen since.

Investigators are now taking swabs from Nancy’s landscaper, pool cleaner and other hired help according to Fox News.

Police are yet to identify a suspect. Law enforcement has previously taken DNA samples from outside the home in Tucson, Arizona, including blood droplets that belonged to Nancy.

The new DNA samples will be used to help ‘eliminate individuals or obtain information about them,’ former Las Vegas Police Lieutenant Randy Sutton told Fox News.

FBI Director Kash Patel released new surveillance photos of a man appearing to tamper with Nancy’s doorbell camera on Tuesday, saying the photographs were ‘recovered from residual data located in backend systems.’

Police had previously said her camera had been disconnected shortly before 2am on February 1.

This comes after the deadlines for two ransom notes have passed, including a note where the family was demanded to pay $6 million in Bitcoin.

Nancy Guthrie’s children told captors in an emotional video that they would pay the large sum to have their mother safely returned.

The elderly mother was reported missing on February 1 after not attending a church event.

Her daughter, Annie, and son-in-law, Tommaso Cioni, realized she was missing around 11.10am, the Pima County Sheriff’s Office said.

They reported Nancy’s disappearance to police at 12.15pm. Her phone, wallet, vital daily medications and car were all still at her $1 million Catalina Foothills home.
