Florida congressman requests FCC investigation into Bad Bunny's halftime performance

U.S. Representative Randy Fine has criticized the lyrics of a performer’s Super Bowl act, labeling them as overly explicit and unsuitable for broadcast.

In ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla., a Florida congressman is advocating for a federal probe into Bad Bunny’s halftime show during the Super Bowl, arguing that it was not appropriate for television audiences.

Randy Fine, a Republican representing Florida’s 6th District, announced on X that he has reached out to FCC Chair Brendan Carr, urging a comprehensive investigation into the roles of the NFL and NBCUniversal in airing the performance.

“The woke nonsense we witnessed during the Super Bowl needs to be thoroughly INVESTIGATED and STOPPED,” Fine asserted. “We cannot allow over 130 million viewers — especially CHILDREN — to be subjected to the indecent and offensive material of the 2026 Super Bowl halftime show.”

Fine’s correspondence detailed accusations that Bad Bunny’s lyrics were “pornographic,” promoted cocaine use among minors, and included the “F-word,” despite the performance being in Spanish.

He highlighted the song “Safaera” as particularly explicit. Notably, the song wasn’t performed in full, and certain lyrics were either self-censored or altered during the live show.

In the letter, Fine argues that the halftime show “had the predictable and dangerous effect of encouraging children across the country to seek out and listen to the full, uncensored, and explicitly sexual lyrics.”

“I am formally requesting that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) immediately open a full investigation into the NFL and NBCUniversal for knowingly allowing indecent material to be broadcast nationwide during one of the most widely viewed television events in history,” Fine wrote.

Fine’s letter comes after widespread backlash from conservative politicians and President Donald Trump over the decision to allow Bad Bunny, a Spanish-language performer and Puerto Rican, to perform at all. Turning Point USA, a conservative advocacy organization, streamed its own counter-performance at the same time called the “All-American Halftime Show,” featuring headliner Kid Rock.

“The All-American Halftime Show pulled in OVER 25 MILLION views on just YouTube and Rumble alone,” TPUSA spokesperson Andrew Kolvet tweeted. “Based on tonight’s success, we have committed to running it back again next year. The All-American Halftime Show will be back in 2027.”
