Angus Taylor has made his appeal to the public, even though they won’t be casting votes on this issue, through a post on the platform X yesterday.

In a setting that included rolled-up sleeves and the gentle rustle of eucalyptus leaves behind him, Taylor began with a stark message, declaring, “Our country is in trouble.”

He criticized the current administration by stating, “The Labor government has failed, and the Liberal Party has lost its way.”

Expressing his ambition, Taylor announced, “I’m running for the leadership of the Liberal Party because I believe Australia is worth fighting for.”

He added, “I am convinced that we need robust and decisive leadership that provides Australians with clarity, courage, and confidence in charting a vision for our future.”

Taylor emphasized the need for accountability, saying, “We must start by holding this underperforming Labor government accountable for their complete mismanagement of our country and advocate for solutions to the challenges Australians face.”

“I’m dedicated to serving you, the Australian people, and giving you a strong alternative that re-enlivens the great Australian dream.

“I’m committing myself to the cause of restoring our party so that it can be the party that Australians expect and deserve because we are running out of time and Australia is worth fighting for.”

By contrast, incumbent leader Ley’s recent X posts focus on the budget and the economy, including promising lower taxes.

“Aspiration sits at the heart of the Australian promise. If you work hard, play by the rules, do your best for your kids and give back to your community, you should be able to build a better life for your family,” she wrote in a post that went up a couple hours after Taylor’s.

“An Australia with lower personal income taxes, less red tape and strong communities. An Australia that is safe, confident and full of opportunity. That is the country I believe in and will always stand up for. For now, and for future generations.”
