ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A man taken into custody Friday evening in Orange County is facing accusations of reckless driving on Interstate 4 and attempting to evade authorities while possessing narcotics, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

Around 8:30 p.m., a trooper stationed near mile marker 79 on John Young Parkway noticed a vehicle speeding westbound at a staggering 94 mph, as detailed in the FHP arrest documents.

Despite the trooper’s flashing lights and sirens, the driver failed to stop. The report noted the vehicle’s erratic maneuvers, including a sudden lane change that nearly collided with several other cars in a desperate bid to escape.

The chase continued as the vehicle left I-4 at mile marker 76, heading north on Grand National Drive, eventually proceeding onto Major Boulevard. The pursuit culminated after two Precision Immobilization Techniques (PIT) were executed, disabling the car before it reached the junction with State Road 535, according to the FHP.

Officers had to smash the rear window to extract the driver, identified as 44-year-old Akram Ahmed from Winter Park, officials stated.

Ahmed is now facing multiple charges, including high-speed fleeing from law enforcement, drug possession with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting an officer without violence, driving with a revoked license as a habitual offender, and two counts of failing to appear in court, according to legal records.

He’s being held on no bond.
