Shortly afterward, the two were seen escorting an elderly gentleman across a landing as the car maneuvered into position.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing Baghsarian’s desperate screams as he was forced into the vehicle, accompanied by the sound of shattering glass.

Authorities are currently investigating the incident, suspecting the kidnapping might be a result of mistaken identity.

Robbery and serious crime squad detectives are looking into whether the intended target was a known criminal who lives nearby and has potential links to the Alameddine crime network.

During a press briefing, a police officer stated, “The individuals holding him have targeted the wrong person.”

Neighbors describe Baghsarian as a widower who has been living alone for the past four years.

Police said they have seen a video made by the kidnappers that shows Baghsarian’s face covered and his hands tied with duct tape.

“We fear for the safety of the hostage and we think he may have been harmed,” Detective acting Superintendent Andrew Marks said.

Neighbours contacted police after hearing commotion from a home in North Ryde in Sydney about 5am yesterday.
