Drysdale’s competitive spirit was evident with a singles record of 380-218 and a doubles record of 188-159. Representing South Africa in the Davis Cup, he played from 1962 to 1967 and again from 1973 to 1974. His post-retirement career was equally illustrious as he became a staple on ESPN, calling matches until September 2025. His tenure with the network made him its longest-serving commentator following Bob Ley’s retirement in 2019. Drysdale’s contributions to tennis were further recognized in 1998 when he received the William M. Johnston award for sportsmanship and his service to the game.
