Exclusive— Sen. Cotton: Democrats Oppose SAVE Act to 'Cheat' in Elections

Senator Tom Cotton of Arkansas recently spoke out against the Democratic opposition to the SAVE America Act, asserting that their resistance stems from a desire to facilitate election fraud. This statement, made exclusively to News, highlights the ongoing debate surrounding voter integrity and access.

The SAVE America Act, formally known as the Safeguarding American Voter Eligibility Act, pushes for stricter voter registration requirements. It mandates that individuals present proof of American citizenship, such as a U.S. passport or birth certificate, when registering to vote. Additionally, the act requires voters to show photo identification at polling stations, a move aimed at bolstering election security.

Endorsed by former President Donald Trump, the legislation recently cleared the U.S. House of Representatives. It garnered support from nearly all Republicans and just a single Democrat, Representative Henry Cuellar of Texas. Despite its passage in the House, the act now faces significant hurdles in the Senate, where a 60-vote threshold is necessary to overcome a filibuster. Currently, Republicans claim to have 50 senators in favor, while Democrats remain staunchly opposed.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York has been vocal in his criticism of the act, labeling it as “Jim Crow 2.0.” In an appearance on MS NOW’s Morning Joe, Schumer argued that the act is an attempt to resurrect discriminatory practices that once suppressed minority voting rights in the South.

Senator Cotton, who chairs the Senate Republican Conference, has taken to social media to denounce Schumer’s characterization of the bill as offensive. The clash over the SAVE America Act underscores the deep partisan divide over voting rights and election integrity, issues that remain at the forefront of national discourse.

Cotton, chair of the Senate Republican Conference, blasted Schumer’s insulting take on social media:

“Let’s call it like it is: Chuck Schumer opposes voter ID because he wants to make it easy to commit voter fraud,” he wrote on X.

In an exclusive statement to – News, Cotton reiterated that the Democrats are working against election security.

“Senate Democrats oppose voter ID for one reason: they want to make it easy to cheat in our elections. Almost every American supports voter ID and there’s no excuse to stop it.”

Despite claims by Schumer and other Democrats that voter ID is somehow racist, a Pew Research Center survey shows that it is overwhelmingly popular amongst Americans of different ethnicities, including black and Latino voters:
