A dramatic video has emerged depicting masked individuals brazenly assaulting a police vehicle with an officer inside, during a tumultuous street takeover in Maryland.

Footage and eyewitness reports reveal drivers converging on the intersection of East West Highway and Connecticut Avenue just after midnight on February 22 in Gaithersburg, Maryland. They obstructed traffic in every direction, executing high-speed “donuts” while spectators lined the streets.

According to Montgomery County police, the incident unfolded around 12:39 a.m. when a substantial convoy of vehicles linked to takeover activities was observed heading toward Silver Spring’s central business area. Officers responded by monitoring the convoy and sealing several intersections to restrict access and safeguard the community.

However, their measures were insufficient as numerous vehicles swarmed the bustling intersection, effectively bringing it to a standstill.

Dashcam footage captured individuals seemingly intentionally blocking police vehicles by standing in the roadway, while drivers persisted in performing “donuts” on the street.

During the confrontation, two marked Montgomery County police cruisers were vandalized. Photos from the department showed the windows of the patrol vehicles shattered.

In one case, an officer was seated inside his vehicle when the rear window was shattered and the windshield was smashed. No officers were injured.

Maryland State Police responded to assist in dispersing the crowd and restoring traffic flow.

Before the caravan reached Montgomery County, three handguns were recovered during traffic stops conducted by Prince George’s County Police and Maryland State Police related to the gathering.

Police said street takeovers pose serious risks to participants, spectators and unsuspecting drivers.
