Terrifying moment caught on camera as road collapse suddenly swallows vehicles at busy intersection

Dramatic footage captured the heart-stopping moment when a roadway gave way beneath two unsuspecting motorists near the University of Nebraska-Omaha on Tuesday. The collapse sent their vehicles plunging several feet below the surface.

Security cameras at the university recorded the scene as the two vehicles approached an intersection side-by-side. A third vehicle, a pickup truck, then pulled up behind them. This seemingly triggered the unexpected collapse of the road beneath them.

Emergency crews swiftly responded to the scene at the intersection of 67th and Pacific Streets around 3:30 p.m., according to reports from local news outlet WOWT.

The collapse appeared to be triggered by a pickup truck behind the two cars.

By the time authorities reached the site, the occupants of the vehicles had managed to escape from the gaping hole.

“This caught everybody by surprise,” remarked Lt. Dan Martin of the University of Nebraska-Omaha Public Safety, speaking to the local media about the startling incident.

Martin warned the sinkhole could expand, though it appears no additional sinkholes had been spotted as of Wednesday night.

Officials told WOWT the street will remain closed for “several days,” and motorists should avoid the area.
