The parents of a three-year-old boy who died in the foyer of a Queensland police station following a car crash on the Gold Coast last year have been charged with manslaughter and drug trafficking.

In the early hours of Saturday, October 25, tragedy struck when a car veered off the road into bushland near Stapylton. Inside were 24-year-old Samuel Ian Paterson, his 22-year-old partner, their critically injured child Caden Case, and another youngster.

Despite the severity of his injuries, Caden was rushed to Beenleigh Police Station by a good Samaritan along with his mother. Unfortunately, despite the valiant efforts of the officers, Caden could not be saved.

Meanwhile, Paterson and the other child were later located at a residence in Beenleigh, where the second child was examined at a hospital and fortunately found to be unharmed.

Since the incident, Paterson has remained in custody. After extensive forensic and mechanical inquiries over several months, authorities have now announced a significant development. They believe that it was Caden’s mother who was driving the vehicle at the time of the crash.

After months of forensic and mechanical investigation, police revealed today they now believe Caden’s mother was behind the wheel when the car crashed.

The now 23-year-old woman from Labrador has been charged with a number of offences including one count of manslaughter domestic violence offence against a child, trafficking in dangerous drugs, and driving without a licence.
